Marlon C. Shackelford has spent the past twenty years building the esteem of young people throughout the United States. As a former Associate Professor for the College of Violence Interruption Process in Chicago, Illinois, and one of the nations top 100 Violence Prevention Specialists under the Clinton Administration from 1994-2000, he addresses young audiences on topics of substance abuse, unemployment, homelessness, crime/violence prevention, educational deficits and a number of other important issues. In addition to addressing the crucial issues of our day, Shack motivates youth to respect themselves and others, while stressing the value of making wise and healthy choices that will affect them throughout their lives. He holds twenty-eight certifications in various violence prevention models.
After starting this organization, Shack has been responsible for casting the #1 Self Worth Team in the country and has engaged with over 1 million of generation millennium dreamers. This group of youngsters has traveled throughout the country performing compelling reality skits that provoke thought and provide encouragement to youth and adults. Over 28,000 students have participated in the BBI/BSI program, with more than 18,000 going on to college. Many of these young adults have completed their education and received their degrees. In 2005, he started the Street Souljahz Program, an initiative designed to reduce youth and adult violence in the greater Dayton area.
Since 1990, Shack and his young performers have had the opportunity to make an impact on many audiences. Performances have included the “1992 Gang Summit” in Los Angeles California as well as a 1994 performance for Bishop Desmond Tutu at the Anti-Apartheid Rally in Cincinnati, Ohio. BBI/BSI were also featured performers in the 1996 Olympic Pre-game Celebration and have appeared on Black Entertainment Television’s Teen Summit and the Russ Parr Morning Show. Additionally, Mr. Shackelford has been awarded the Keys to the City of Anniston, Alabama and received numerous other recognitions and proclamations for his work. He is the 1998 recipient of the YMCA’s Minority Achievers “Stop The Violence Award”. In 2001, he was recognized as one of Parity Inc.’s Top Ten African American Males and was the inaugural recipient of the SCLC’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Champion For Youth Award in 2006. In 2010, he was received the Street Advocate Minority Health Community Leadership Award.
